A Little Eyelash Extension History?
Before I became Eyelash Stylist, little did I know that individual eyelash extension products had been available for many decades. And this is what I found out after reading an article posted by Phyl Baker
(a RN, licensed aesthetician, founder of NaturalLash, a family-owened business).
She says: -" At recent beauty trade shows, many aestheticians in their 70s said eyelash extensions had been around since at list the 1930s. One woman said, "Honey, those aren't new. I have been doing them for 40 years!" At Marvin Westmore museum collection you can find boxes of individual eyelash extensions that date back to the 1920s."
SO, WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic and mink eyelashes. However, in my practice I only use high quality synthetic products that provide a natural look and feel. Each lash extension is attached one-by-one to each individual natural eyelash - NOT to the skin. This service is beauty enhancing and eliminates the need to wear mascara. It is a meticulous service which requires skill and precision. Once the eyelash extensions are applied they look so natural that it is difficult to tell that you have extensions on. Size availability ranges from short to long, various thicknesses and colors, as well as different curl.
HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?
Extensions can last up to 4-6 weeks or more with proper care, touch-ups, and depending on the natural growth cycle of your own lashes, which are usually ranges from 30 to 45 days (Anogen-growing stage).
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET TOUCH-UPS?
Typically, every 2-3 weeks is recommended. Touch-ups (fill-in) can take about 1 ½ to 2 hours depending on lash loss. Your lash extensions are attached to your individual own eyelashes and will shed as your natural lashes shed. Maintaining your lash extensions will require regular visits to attach new extensions (fill-in) to your own eyelashes as your eyelash growth cycle regenerates new lashes. How well you take care of your extensions also plays a vital role in their life span!
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
After your lashes have been extended, you must allow 12-24 hours for the glue to completely cure before you can get them wet. You will receive an after care card with instructions on how to clean the eye area of dirt and makeup on a regular basis. Any products that contain glycols and carbonates can loosen the bond of your extensions. It is very important to read ingredient labels on all products used on your extensions!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO APPLY THE EXTENSIONS?
It depends on the desired look you want to achieve. The process takes anywhere from 2 to 3 hours for a new set. Touch-ups can take about 1 to 1 ½ hours depending on lash loss. Lash extensions are popular and in demand but may NOT be quick and easy additions to your lifestyle. Realistic expectations are necessary for anyone who is considering getting eyelash extensions!
WHAT DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS CONSIST OF?
You will be lying comfortably on your back on a treatment table with your eyes closed during the entire process listening to music and relaxing or napping.
HOW DO I REMOVE THE EXTENSIONS?
Please have your eyelash stylist remove the extensions for you with special remover. Attempting to remove the lashes yourself could result in natural lash loss and is NEVER RECOMMENDED!
